SONGWRITING

Southern Comfort

By: Laura Alford

You compromised for comfort
So don’t come crying to me
You made your choice
To live in misery

It’s your life,
I don’t have to approve.
Don’t make excuses,
Just live your truth
But don’t ask me to stay
Or keep your spot warm
Or come seeking shelter
In the midst of the storm

Listen to yourself,
The words you say
The bourbon you drink
To make the pain go away

You’re selling your soul
For a sectional sofa
Choosing to live
With a luxury cobra

It’s your life,
I don’t have to approve
Don’t make excuses,
Just live your truth
Don’t ask me to stay
Or keep your spot warm
Or come seeking shelter
In the midst of the storm

It’s my life,
You don’t have to approve
I won’t make excuses,
Just live my truth
I can’t stay
Or keep your spot warm
Or offer you shelter
In the midst of the storm
